Christmas music certainly has a polarizing side. Some listen for 12 months a year, while others can’t listen for more than a few seconds.
Among those who love, or at least tolerate, this genre of music, some songs can provoke irritation, disgust, or anger.
Sometimes it’s the matter of the musical arrangements, others the annoying lyrics. Finally, many times, listening to the song too much means we just can’t take it anymore.
It’s with this in mind that CNN culture journalist AJ Willingham decided to compile a list of Christmas songs people love to hate.
Here are selected works:
“A Wonderful Christmas”, Paul McCartney (1979)
“Do They Know It’s Christmas”, Band Aid (1984)
“Baby, It’s Cold Outside” by Frank Loeser, 1944
“The Chipmunk Song”, Alvin & the Chipmunks (1958)
“Grandma Got to Run Over a Reindeer”, Elmo & Patsy (1979)
“Santa’s Baby”, Eartha Kidd (1953)
“The Little Drummer Boy” by Kathryn Kennicott Davis, 1941
“The Christmas Shoes”, Newsong (2000)
“Dominic the Donkey”, Lou Monte (1960)
“Last Christmas”, Wham! (1986)
