What is the theme of Peaky Blinders?
Thomas Shelby (Cillian Murphy) and his family – older brother Arthur (Paul Anderson) and Aunt Polly (Helen McCrory) lead one of the most powerful criminal groups in the city. Fearsome Peaky Blinders are popularly named after their sewn-in razor-sharp hats. They make money from illegal betting, racketeering and black market trading. However, Tommy’s ambitions go beyond ruling the underworld in Birmingham. He wants to strengthen his position in the city by running a legitimate business. An opportunity to carry out the plans comes when Shelby receives a shipment of weapons stolen from a local factory. Members of the rival gangs of communist revolutionaries and the Irish Republican Brotherhood begin to hunt small arms in droves. Concerned about the possibility of it being used by the Communists or the Irish Republican Army, Secretary of State Winston Churchill moved the ruthless Police Commissioner Chester Campbell (Sam Neill) from Dublin to Birmingham to retrieve the guns and rid the city of gangs. Billy Kemper (Charlie Creed Miles) also stands in Tommy’s way, monopolizing the bet that Shelby has chosen as his source of income.
