Novak Djokovic – an outspoken opponent of compulsory vaccination – has been in immigration detention since arriving in Australia on Thursday, but has not been allowed to leave the airport and enter the country.
Monday hearing
According to Reuters, a hearing will be held on Monday regarding the immediate future of the tennis player, who is still hoping to fight for the 10th Australian Open title.
The tennis player’s coaching staff briefed the Australian Open organizers and immigration services on this matter before his arrival on the mainland, and said that permission to enter had been granted in early January. In this case, a visa that exempts him from the obligation to provide proof of vaccination should give him a chance to avoid quarantine on arrival, the documents indicate. The Serbian tennis player’s camp claims that he has therefore met all the criteria to be allowed to remain in Australia.
