Two people drowned on a beach in northern Peru. The tragedy occurred as a result of the rising waves that arose after the eruption of the Hongga Tonga Hong Hapai submarine volcano.

“New Zealand authorities have not received any reports of deaths or injuries in the Tonga archipelago,” Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said at a news conference on Sunday.
