Netflix has released the first full trailer for the second season of Bridgerton, coming to the streaming platform on March 25. The sneak peek was revealed during a global event that brought together book author Julia Quinn and cast members.
Based on Julia Quinn’s book series, Bridgerton tells the story of an aristocratic English family who find themselves entangled in a web of lies and drama. The cast includes the stars Julie Andrews, Adjoa Andoh, Ruby Barker, Jonathan Bailey, Jason Barnett, and Sabrina Bartlett.
Bridgerton’s Success
Bridgerton‘s first season became the most popular show to ever hit Netflix as soon as it was released on the platform on December 25, 2020. According to Jinny Howe, the head of Original Series and vice president of Netflix, the show was watched by 82 million households in its first 28 days. The series reached the top 10 in every country around the globe, with the exception of Japan. It reached number one in 83 countries, including the US, UK, Brazil, France, India and South Africa. Simultaneously, the series led to the rise in the sales of the books that inspired the show, taking them to the top of The New York Times bestseller list for the first time.
Bridgerton is part of a long line of English period dramas, which tend to explore the Victorian age and the life of the upper classes. One of the best examples include ITV’s historical drama Downton Abbey, which shows both the opulent upper class and more difficult lower class lifestyles that the period saw. These series are known for their impact on popular culture and for sparking influence outside the TV world. For instance, Bridgerton has inspired the creation of a musical album, while Downton Abbey spawned a feature film and even the Downton Abbey online casino jackpots on Genesis casino. In this online slot, game users can get a sense of the series’ atmosphere while casting their luck at the reels. They highlight people’s love for a particular period in time that seems just far enough out of reach to border on fantasy.
Bridgerton Season 2
In the first trailer for the upcoming season, Lady Whistledown once again causes an uproar amongst the members of high society with her controversial letters. Another high moment in the trailer is the exclusive preview of the new leading couple formed by Lord Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey) and Kate Sharma (Simone Ashley).
The second season will focus on the older brother in the Bridgerton family, Anthony, as he is encouraged to settle down and find a wife. In this new chapter of the story, two mysterious sisters, Kate and Edwina Sharma (Charithra Chandran), who recently arrived from India, will cause chaos in Lord Anthony’s life. After he begins to court Edwina, Kate decides she will stop at nothing to stop their union. The initial rivalry seems as though it will bring Kate and Anthony closer, making the situation more complicated and excitingly tense. At the same time, across Grosvenor Square, the Featheringtons welcome the youngest heir to their property, while Penelope (Nicola Coughlan) continues to navigate the city.
Ahead of the season premiere, it has already been confirmed that Regé-Jean Page, the Duke, a fan-favourite character, will not be part of the cast for the second season. On the bright side, Netflix announced that seasons three and four have already been greenlit.
