It’s hard to be positive when I don’t get it right. I put everything on a tray, and once again I missed the opportunity. I broke the second jump. I can’t explain it to myself – said Stoch in an interview with the skijumping.pl portal after the World Cup competitions on Sunday in Oslo, which he led in the middle of the road and finally came in 15th place.
The competition in the capital of Norway focused the problems of the three-time Olympic champion as in the lens. Several times this season it seemed like Stoch was about to get back to championship level, but in the end there was no repeat of the good jumps.
He placed third after the first round in the middle ground competition at the last Beijing Olympics, but finally came in sixth. In fourth place was on a large hill. “What happened today won’t block my love of jumping, but my heart is bleeding,” he said then.
In the general classification of the World Cup 2021/22, Stoch took 19th place. In his fight for the crystal ball, he no longer counts, and the tournament in Vikersund is his last chance to experience real fun this season.
In the nearly 35-year-old’s wide range of jumping, there is still no gold from the World Figure Skating Championships. In 2018, Stoch took second place in Oberstdorf. It was the Poles’ second medal in an event in this order, after bronze in 1979. In Germany, white and red managed to take a historic third place in the team competition. They repeated this result two years later in Planica.
By a decision of coach Michel Dolezal, in addition to Stoch, Poland will be represented by: David Kupaki, Piotr Seka, Bawik Weisk, Andrzej Stuka, Jacob Woolny.
The title won two years ago will be defended by German Karl Geiger. Among the winning candidates are Norway’s Halvor Aigner Granrod and Marius Lindvik, as well as Japan’s Ryoyo Kobayashi, who leads the World Cup general classification.
As a team, the Norwegians seem to be the strongest again. As a team, they won the gold medal at the World Flying Championships in the previous three editions.
After the reconstruction, the mammoth in Vikersund has been the circuit for the world record for the jumping distance since 2011. Five years ago, the Austrian ship Stefan Kraft reached 253.5 meters in length.
