The new version of “Color Violet” – what do we know about the project?
“The Color Purple” is an adaptation of Alice Walker’s Pulitzer Prize-winning book of the same title. It was already taken to the big screen once – in 1985 an adaptation of director Steven Spielberg was released in cinemas. The movie stars Whoopi Goldberg, Danny Glover, and Oprah Winfrey.

The new version is in pre-production. Behind the camera will be Sam Blitz Bazawule (“Black Is King”). The script was written by Marcus Gardley (“Mindhunter”, “The Cleaner”). Among the producers there are, among others, Oprah Winfrey, who made her on-screen debut in the original version of the film, and Alice Walker, the author of the original book.
The project is being developed for Warner Bros. The premiere is scheduled for December 20, 2023.
What is “the color purple” about?
We can also read on the website of the publishing house Prószyński i S-ka, whose novel Alice Walker was published in Poland, “Kolor purple is A touching story of love, hate, hope and liberation.
Georgia, 1930s. Celia, a poor African American, tells her life story through a series of letters to God. A victim of the violence of her father and then her husband, Celia suffers in silence. He finds letters for his missing sister, from which he learns that Nettie – after escaping from home – has left for Africa, where she works as a missionary. Despite the separation, the relationship between the two sisters is still very strong. Celia decided to leave her husband and start a new life.
Who is John Baptiste?
John Baptiste is an American musician, composer, and songwriter. Collaborate with artists to create different musical genres. Among them were stars such as Stevie Wonder, Prince, Lenny Kravitz and Ed Sheeran. He performs regularly with his band Stay Human. In 2022, he was nominated for a Grammy Award in 11 categories. He won five figurines, incl. for best album.
