“We understand the difficult situation for PGG, which is why – despite our commitment to important contracts – we have started talks about renegotiating prices. We estimate that the cost of purchasing coal from Polish mines per gigajoule may more than double,” says Wojciech Debrowski.
As Rzeczpospolita wrote on Monday, trade unions want coal prices in the range of those at ARA ports. Can the energy sector pay that much? As Dąbrowski explains, the contract adjustment of ARA’s price level means an increase of up to seven times, which is unacceptable, for example, to completely isolate it from mining costs and their impact on energy prices.
As the PGE chief adds, “the mining industry – just like us – must take into account the public interest and not raise prices unduly.”
The newspaper notes that analysts are frank: tariff increases must be three-digit, otherwise companies will not continue.
“We are talking frankly – electricity will certainly be more expensive in 2023” – the head of PGE replied. He called on consumers to focus now on rationalizing consumption and simply start saving. “As a result, increases may be less pronounced. Household prices will ultimately depend on the decision of the head of the Energy Regulatory Office, but also on government actions, such as keeping value-added tax and excise tax low, which is of paramount importance “- he says.
“According to our analysis, predictions of a twofold increase in the amount billed are exaggerated. We estimate that it will be a double-digit level.” – He adds.
It is estimated that the magnitude of the increase in energy costs for enterprises depends on individual factors, as well as on when and on what terms the previous contract to which we are referring was concluded.

Echo Richards embodies a personality that is a delightful contradiction: a humble musicaholic who never brags about her expansive knowledge of both classic and contemporary tunes. Infuriatingly modest, one would never know from a mere conversation how deeply entrenched she is in the world of music. This passion seamlessly translates into her problem-solving skills, with Echo often drawing inspiration from melodies and rhythms. A voracious reader, she dives deep into literature, using stories to influence her own hardcore writing. Her spirited advocacy for alcohol isn’t about mere indulgence, but about celebrating life’s poignant moments.
