Two Quebec city apartments struck by lightning

At least two apartments were struck by lightning in the Quebec City region on Tuesday evening due to thunderstorms.

Just before 6pm, lightning struck a house in the Semine de la Grande-Ligne, near Loch-Saint-Charles, north of Quebec.

An evacuation was necessary, but firefighters did not report any injuries or fires at this address. The situation was quickly brought under control and the checks turned negative.

Shortly afterwards, Supers was again alerted to a lightning strike on a house in the Rue des Amis in the Beaport field.

Low risks

The probability of being struck by lightning is less than a million.

According to Environment Canada, lightning kills two to three people and injures 180 every year in the country, most of the time between June and August. In most cases of death, people were either in an open field or taking refuge under a tree.

Although lightning strikes most places, a safe building is a safe place when it rains with thunder.
