The Red Cross wants to take care of at least 40 families in a major fire that broke out in a residential building last night in Dolard-des-Ormaux.
About 150 firefighters were dispatched to the scene.
Patrick Fornell, division head of the Montreal Fire Department (SIM), said two buildings in Brunswick Boulevard began to catch fire shortly before 9 p.m.
“Nine Red Cross volunteers are ready to analyze the needs of individuals. At present, at least twenty houses have been damaged and we plan to help nearly 40 families,” said Carroll du Salt, a spokeswoman for the Red Cross.
Residents of 149 homes were evicted from the premises.
One person was troubled by the flames and Argentes-Sante took charge.

“I went outside and saw the flames. People were running everywhere. It was so crazy, ”said local John Duperry.
At the time of writing, at 11:30 p.m., no serious injuries were reported. Two people were taken to a hospital, but we are not afraid for their lives.

At about 10:30 p.m., nearly 300 people were watching the burning building.

A large black smoke was seen in the surrounding area as firefighters continued to work to contain the blaze.
