- Energy prices for next year in Poland reached 1.6 thousand. PLN per megawatt-hour, while last year it was PLN 360
- In Europe, these prices are still about a thousand. TOP PLN
- The main causes are gas and coal supply problems, but the impact of climate and drying up of rivers is also increasing
- However, there are difficulties in reaching ships on the horizon
- More such information can be found on the home page of Onet.pl
The portal has conducted a detailed analysis of the situation in the energy market in Europe Wysokienapiecie.pl. There are no good conclusions from it. “The price of electricity in Poland with delivery in 2023 has increased to PLN 1,635 / MWh, compared to PLN 360 / MWh paid for this year 12 months ago. This is the highest price ever paid in Poland for a contract to supply energy next year“- We read.
It is not the most expensive in Poland at all. Higher rates were recorded in Germany, the Czech Republic, Austria, Hungary, Slovakia and the British Isles. On the other hand, France and Switzerland broke records, with prices reaching 2.6 thousand. PLN/MWh.
Energy prices primarily increase problems with raw materials for power plants – especially gas supply. In Poland, on the other hand, there is a shortage of coal. Unfortunately, there has been another problem recently – it is no longer geopolitical, but climatic.
drought and saving
As reported by Business Insider Polska, Norway, one of the main sources of energy in Europe, has problems with draining water tanks. Now the government there plans to limit shipping to other countries and will focus on its own supplies.
Germany also has problems, as the Rhine dries up, making it difficult to transport raw materials.
In Poland, on the other hand, coal is provided. The installed capacity of all domestic power plants is 53.7 GW, of which 32.9 GW are hard coal and lignite units. Only on Tuesday, 17.6 GW of power was shut down, of which nearly 12 GW were unplanned losses.
Not only was the unit in Jaworzno malfunctioning, but also, for example, due to a malfunction, the unit in EC Żerań (497 MW) fell out of the system. On the other hand, there were half-whistle – at certain hours or on the clock – among others, masses in Kozienice, Opole, Rybnik and Turów. Same reason: “operating conditions”. Practically, this slogan covers the fear of a shortage of coal on the Polish market and the need to save fuel for the winter. also because of That the operator does not require these blocks to operate beyond domestic demand, i.e. to produce energy for export. Especially since in the summer daytime, the system is supported by more and more solar power plants.
More problems on the horizon
The Wysokienapiecie.pl portal is already predicting the following difficulties in the market. “Another bottleneck in the coming months, or even in a 2-3 year perspective, may be the availability of ships. Due to the fact that Russia is under sanctions by the European Union, ships carrying Russian coal will go to Asia, and coal will flow from Asia, Australia and South America to Europe. This will increase the amount of coal carried by ships and lengthen the delivery times of these shipments, and thus the occupancy of the fleet. A similar situation will happen with LNG carriers ”- we read.
