– Imports of alcoholic beverages have recently fallen by 60 to 100 percent, depending on the chain – Russian daily reports.
The Association of Retail Enterprises calculates, in particular, that the supply of sparkling wine from the Champagne region has stopped completely, the import of whiskey has decreased by 70 percent, and imported French brandy and beer – by 60 percent. As a result, purchase prices for imported alcohol in February increased by 27-40%, and even for some varieties by 70%.

At the end of the first half of the year, import of all alcoholic beverages had fallen by almost 35 percent, to 32.65 million liters, and whiskey by nearly 50 percent, to 11.8 million liters.
As part of the sanctions, the United States has completely banned the shipment of alcohol to Russia, and the European Union has banned shipments of alcohol over 300 euros per piece. Many companies have halted shipments on their own or have withdrawn from the market. Diageo (Bell’s, Johnnie Walker, Captain Morgan, Baileys) announced in late June that it was restricting its operations in the country. Meanwhile, Beam Suntory (Jim Beam) and Edrington (Macallan) announced the sale of Russian distributor Maxxium Russia to local management.
