Denmark’s Margrethe II, Europe’s only queen and the continent’s longest-reigning monarch, has stripped her son Joachim’s four children of their princely titles and allowed them to lead normal lives, the royal family announced Wednesday.

“From January 1, 2023, the descendants of His Royal Highness Prince Joachim can only use the titles of Count and Countess of Manbesat, their previous titles of Prince and Princess of Denmark are no longer valid,” the Danish court wrote. In a press release.

The Queen’s youngest son, Prince Joachim, 53, has four children aged 23 to 10 from two marriages: Nikolai, Felix, Henrik and Athena.

“Through her decision, Her Majesty the Queen wants to create a framework in which the four grandchildren can shape their own lives to a greater extent, without special consideration, but rather a formal connection to the House. Royal”, it stated.
