The accused had met the victim on a dating site in September 2020, a few hours before the crime. After the murder of the 43-year-old, his body was to be dismembered in his apartment in Berlin’s Pankow district, and parts of his body were abandoned in different parts of the city.
The teacher’s victim was an experimenter who left the apartment on September 5, shortly before midnight. For weeks, the man was considered missing. The crime was discovered on November 8, when human bone fragments were found in a forested area of Pankow.
The investigation led the officers to a 41-year-old man. The history of messages exchanged between the two men was analyzed on the Internet. In addition, a taxi driver who was supposed to take a mechanic to Pankov was identified.
The teacher has been detained since November. He did not address the charges against him, nor did he do so at Tuesday’s hearing. A defense attorney for the 41-year-old accused said at the start of the trial that his client would not comment on the matter for the time being.
The process is expected to continue until mid-October.
