According to Deadline, Liam Neeson is negotiating the lead role in the reboot of the cult comedy “Naked Gun.” Behind the camera will be Akiva Schaeffer, director, among others such films “The Neighborhood Watch”, “Popstar” and “Chip and Dale: RR Brigade”.

A new barebones weapon being made for Paramount. The screenplay was written by Dan Gregor and Doug Mand, who collaborated with Schafer on Chip and Dale, which recently won an Emmy for Best TV Movie. One of the reboots’ producers is “Head of the Family” and “Ted” creator Seth MacFarlane. Neeson starred in his comedy A Million Ways to Die in the West.

The original Naked Weapon was a theatrical reboot of the 1982 sitcom “Special Brigade.” The show’s creators – David Zucker, Jim Abrahams and Jerry Zucker – mercilessly parodied a crime drama about cops. The TV adventures of Detective Frank Drebin, played by Leslie Nielsen, were so poorly received that it was taken off the air after just six episodes. However, the 1988 version was a huge success and led to two series productions in 1991 and 1994.
