New Godzilla by Toho. What do we know about the project?
The new version of Godzilla will be Japan’s first nuclear production of reptile since “Shin Godzilla” 2016. The movie has no title yet, and the studio also keeps plot details secret. It is known, however, that Takashi Yamazaki will be at the helm of the production – he is an experienced visual effects specialist and director with titles such as “Return: Amazon Time”, “The Sun Always Shines Here” or “Kamikaze”. On social media, the studio showed a teaser poster for the new production with the release date. The film will be shown on screens on November 3, 2023, Godzilla’s upcoming birthday. You can see the graphs below:
This isn’t the only surprise Toho has for us. In mid-November, the series “Godzilla Island” will appear on the studio’s YouTube channel. The 256-episode production was one of the most popular Japanese TV shows of the late 1990s.
Who is Godzilla?
Godzilla is a prehistoric monster (Kaiju) that came to life after nuclear tests in the ocean. He quickly became a pop culture icon and the hero of many (Japanese and American) films, video games, comedies and TV shows. He often fought with other monsters, incl. Rodin, Mothra or King Kong. The fight against the latter was the subject of the movie “Godzilla vs. Kong”, the last production in which we were able to see the legendary monster. Check out the trailer:
“Godzilla vs. Kong” features a duel between two legendary foes in an amazing battle, the stakes of which are the coming centuries of an endangered world. Kong and his defenders set out on a perilous mission to find the true home of this giant. They are accompanied by Jia, a young orphan who has a unique and strong relationship with the Congo. Unexpectedly, an angry Godzilla stands in the way of the expedition, wreaking havoc around the world. The colossal clash between these two giants, orchestrated by hidden forces, is only the beginning of a mystery whose solution lies deep in the heart of the Earth.
