Ukrainian Foreign Minister: The West should not be afraid of the collapse of Russia, and Ukraine has the right to strike at Russian territory

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said in an interview with the American newspaper “The Wall Street Journal” that Western countries should not fear the collapse of Russia as they once stopped fearing the collapse of the Soviet Union.

The authors point out that Ukraine’s Western allies are doing their best to prevent its defeat in the war with Russia, but so far not everyone in the West is satisfied with the prospect of a convincing Kiev victory. In such a scenario, Ukraine would regain control not only of the territories it lost in the current invasion, but also of Crimea and parts of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, which were regained in 2014.

Some of these allies fear that such an outcome could completely destabilize the nuclear-armed Russian state, potentially leading to its disintegration and widespread civil unrest with globally unpredictable consequences. He writes for The Wall Street Journal.

In response, Kuleba said that such concerns remind him of the position of US President George HW Bush. In his famous “Kiev Speech” of 1991, he warned of the danger of “suicidal nationalism” and called on Ukraine to abandon the idea of independence from Moscow in the name of saving the Soviet Union.

Kuleba said: “I urge the world not to be afraid of the disintegration of Russia. If the wheels of history begin to turn, no one can stop them.” Instead of thinking about how to help Russia survive and become a normal member of the international community, it’s time to accept the fact that Russia cannot be a normal member of the international community.

“I don’t think the world will collapse if Russia collapses,” he added. – But Russia will collapse because of its citizens, as happened with the Russian Empire.
