According to analysts, German energy strategy is currently perhaps one of the least transparent policy areas in Europe. They point out that the Greens have always rejected CSS technology – storing carbon dioxide from blue hydrogen production underground, because of the potential for leakage.
The Brussels-based business intelligence agency states: “This is another technological trend that Germany has missed in recent decades. The country that it has not missed is Norway.”
Ironically, Robert Habeck, Germany’s (green) economics minister, traveled to Norway to make a deal on blue hydrogen with the Norwegian government. It was found that carbon dioxide is better in the ground than in the air. The main idea of German energy policy now is to import blue hydrogen from Norway and then export German carbon dioxide through another pipeline to Norway for storage. Opposing CSS technology for ideological reasons, Germany is now exporting excess carbon dioxide to third countries. Such chaos arises when energy strategy is based on red lines, Eurointelligence assesses.
Germany planning to start from nblue hydrogen And gradually replace it with green hydrogen as technology improves. The research center asserts that this will make Norway the most important energy supplier for Germany for a long time. The two countries signed two agreements in this regard this week.
Blue hydrogen is produced using energy from the combustion of fossil fuels. Green hydrogen is produced without emitting carbon dioxide.
