Not much is known about the series yet. There is no indication that work on it has suddenly accelerated. The creator of “Fabelmans” has clearly said that he has no idea what his next project will be.
I have been in one movie after another (I’m talking about “West Side Story” and “Fabelmans” – editor’s note). I’ve never had a chance to think about what I’m going to do when I finish these two movies. I’m sitting in front of all of you right now and I’m like, I don’t know what I’m going to do now. I have no idea.
Still from “West Side Story”
As it turns out, for a creator as busy as Spielberg, the lack of plans is both a good and unsettling thing.
In a way, it’s a nice feeling. And terrible at the same time. It’s great because I finally have control of my life back and can make my own decisions. Steven Spielberg and his latest movie, “The Fabelmans” 2>
Exactly one year after the premiere of the remake of “West Side Story” (7 Oscar nominations, including a statuette for Ariana DeBose for a supporting role), Spielberg’s semi-autobiographical film “The Fabelmans, creator of” ET “,” Saving Private Ryan,” “Schindler’s List” (and, of course, at least a dozen other great films) talked about his youth and family.
The protagonist of “Fabelmans” is Sammy, a sensitive teenager, a big fan of cinema and an aspiring filmmaker. In one of his recordings, the boy discovers a family secret that changes his life, and at the same time discovers the power of cinema – both in finding the truth and in constructing the imagination.
Spielberg himself said of “Fabelmans” that it was a movie born out of the fear he experienced during the pandemic. And it was this fear that made him brave to tell such a special story.
“Fabelmans” is competing for 7 Oscars this year, including categories such as: Motion Picture, Original Screenplay and Direction.
