Quebecers turned out well on Saturday evening for the inaugural 2023 Juno Awards, winning no less than five prizes.

A Montrealer who now lives in Toronto, Rêve got the ball rolling by winning Dance Recording of the Year with his song CTRL + ALT + DEL. He still has a chance to win the People’s Choice Award and Rookie of the Year.
“It’s very interesting, it’s very inspiring. It makes me want to continue creating,” the singer said.
Montreal music production duo Banx & Ranx won Newcomer of the Year (Group), but unfortunately missed out on Single of the Year, coincidentally picked up by The Weeknd and Director of the Year.
Saguenéen group Voivod won Metal/Hardcore Album of the Year for Synchro Anarchy.
Les Louanges won the Francophone Album of the Year award with Crash, beating out albums by Ariane Roy, Hubert Lenoir, Daniel Bélanger and Lisa LeBlanc.
Canadian-Haitian Kaytranada won Rap of the Year with Twin Flame. He also won the director of the year award.
During this 52nd edition, The Weeknd is the group that has accumulated the most nominations with six possible prizes, including the four prizes won on Saturday evening. The group is closely followed by pop-punk singer Avril Lavigne.
The next Juno Gala will be held on Monday evening instead of Sunday, so it won’t compete with the Oscars, ending the 42 Juno Awards in 2023.
