The anticipation for the upcoming GeForce RTX 4070 is certainly very high among gamers who have been waiting for a new and efficient graphics card at an affordable price for a long time. Leaks so far point to a system with the performance of a GeForce RTX 3080, but the whole thing is that it will feature the power consumption typical of GeForce RTX 3060 models. Importantly for many, there will be 12GB of VRAM on the board. The only question is how everything will work out in practice?
The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 graphics card turned out to be noticeably inferior not only to the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti, but also to many models of the Ampere series.
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 confirmed price and gaming power consumption. Performance comparable to GeForce RTX 3080
There’s still some time left until the premiere of the discussed Ada Lovelace unit, but we already know the first results of the card’s performance. The GeForce RTX 4070 score appeared in the Geekbench database of OpenCL tests, and the new system was paired with an Intel Core i9-13900K processor with 32 GB of RAM, and the score was 177,594 points. As it turns out, this is a rather uninspiring result. For comparison, the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti scored 219,504 points in the same test. Moreover, the new design also lags behind many Ampere models. For example, the score for the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti is 201,449 points, and the GeForce RTX 3080 is 181,140 points. Just below the RTX 4070 is the Radeon RX 6900 XT, with a score of 170,008 points.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 – Some graphics card models can use the 8-pin power connector
Some may be disappointed with these results, as the RTX 4070 didn’t even outperform the RTX 3080, which means the performance gain over its immediate predecessor may be relatively small. However, it is worth waiting for the next tests of the new GeForce – it is possible that there will be no need to draw conclusions based on a single result of the Geekbench program. We just remind you that the premiere of the RTX 4070 system will take place on April 12th. A day later, we will learn about non-referenced versions of this chip.
