The northern units of the Finnish infantry will receive new skis to move in the deep rocky snow. It will be produced by a company from Karelia that specializes in cross-country skiing, run by several Olympic medalists and world champions.
As reported by the local magazine “Viikko Pohjois-Karjala”, Military skis are white camouflage. The Army also made additional specifications to make the bindings practical, i.e. to fit soldiers into shoes and operate with gloves. The whole process of putting the skates on and taking them off should take no more than 20 seconds.
Until now, cross-country ski soldiers had to use insulated winter boots.
