There are more and more people for whom virtual proximity is enough. Then they backed off because it didn’t click

Therapists admit that more and more young patients who are rapidly entering relationships, mostly with people they met online, find it difficult to maintain in real life. At first encounters or difficulties, they withdraw, often using language from the virtual world: “It didn’t click.” What did not click? They can’t tell.

A year ago, Hania consciously chose a high school from which she would not have to attend. For children like her, Cloud School fell from the sky. It is a platform for self-study: it works formally as part of homeschooling, but provides students with all the necessary materials and consultations with teachers, so that parents do not have to deal with it.

The pandemic has also increased missing persons

More than 14,000 students are learning in the cloud today. Kids from all over Poland. Hania admits that she tried to join different class groups before, but she didn’t feel confident. Her friends didn’t understand. – I only need one friend. I often find myself not knowing how people work, and it stresses me out – He says. Nikodem (who also learns in Chmura) asserts that virtual acquaintances give him greater satisfaction than acquaintances in real life: – I am friends with many people from different cities and countries. They are my best friends now, even though I haven’t met most of them in person.

The pandemic has also given rise to a generation of twenty years lost in the zigzags of relationships. – Features of the new generation representatives include: a weaker mental state, less sense of control, stronger self-confidence, decreased interpersonal skills – explains Dr. Lucyna Myszka-Strychalska, a social therapist and researcher from Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, who analyzed this issue. As much as 40 percent of respondents aged 18-25 admitted that they don’t trust others because “you can only count on yourself these days”.

The dissatisfaction with the quality of their relationships among 18-29-year-olds, indicated in studies (conducted at the University of Warsaw), is also disturbing, and more frequent than in other age groups. – Young people were unable to establish lasting contact with their peers before the lockdown was introduced or to start their first year remotely.
