Iga Šviotec in the final in Madrid!  The Russians did not stand a chance

Iga Świątek qualifies for the final of the WTA 1000 clay court tournament in Madrid. The Polish No. 1 tennis player beat Russia’s Weronika Kudermietowa (No. 12) 6: 1, 6: 1. Her last opponent on Saturday will be Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka.

The 21-year-old from Razin is fresh out of Madrid after defending the title in Stuttgart, where she opened the fight this year on ‘flour’. In the first round, she had, in the second she won with Austrian Julia Graber 6: 3, 6: 2, in third with American Bernarda Pera (No. 28) 6: 3, 6: 2, in 1/8 finals with Russian Ekaterina Alexandrova ( No. 28). 16.) 6: 4, 6: 7 (3-7), 6: 3, while in the quarterfinals with Croatian Petra Martic (No. 27) 6: 0, 6: 3.

She faced Kudermietowa four years older than her for the fourth time in her career and won her fourth victory. In the two previous matches, the Russian won after only one game. This time it wasn’t much better. The match lasted an hour and 19 minutes.

Counting from the 2020 French Open, the event in Madrid is the 10th on clay where Świątek starts. She won six of them (French Open 2020 and 2022, Rome 2021 and 2022 and Stuttgart 2022 and 2023). Including the most recent win, they have a 46-3 match record.
