– This is a response to the counterattack of the Ukrainians. It is impossible to maintain an advantage in every direction of attack. The Russians decided to attack Kobyansk because it was a city of strategic importance. Some time ago, Ukrainian intelligence reported that Russia was concentrating its forces there. I think the moment has come – says General Mieczysław Bieniek in an interview with Onet.
In July of this year, Serhiy Sherevaty, spokesman for the Eastern Group of Ukrainian Forces, reported that in the Kobyansk region the Russians had accumulated a very strong group of more than 100,000 soldiers. people, 900 tanks, 550 artillery systems and 370 missile systems. Why is this city so important? Firstly, it is located on the road to Kharkov, one of the largest cities in Ukraine. Secondly, the Russians want to take back the region in order to avenge last year’s defeat. Therefore, the Ukrainians built a powerful line of defense there.
