Studies of the film created over several months have shown that it is capable of creating a complete story, which, despite extremely difficult filming conditions (only eight shooting days!), retains all the hallmarks of professionalism. And most importantly, it’s a very funny story. Their efforts were appreciated by the jury at the 25th Polish Film Festival in Gdynia. They came as an unknown team of movie fans. They left with the most awards.
After the festival in Gdynia Andrzej and Jeddah He wrote to the makers of “Semi-Serious”: “The film is funny and intelligent (…) excellent situations and expressive dialogues (…) I also like the directing, very effective acting, great editing and cinematography.”
Andrej Saramonovich said of the director: “When we started, we believed that if we united our forces and were able to abandon our artistic selfishness, we would build a strength that others, who work alone, do not have.” .
The action of “Body”, which takes place three years after Pół’s film in earnest, begins on a train from Kraków to Sopot, where Goldie (Thomas Karolac) – a stupid thief steals precious jewelry from churches and smuggles them abroad. In the cabin, he finds a sleeping Voltaire (Rafai Krolikowski), who, to his horror, turns out to be…a corpse. Privileged pensioner Wanda (Emilia Krakowska) with her 10-year-old granddaughter Ola (Ola Radwańska) also enters the cabin. Goldie pretends to them that Voltaire is his sleeping friend and takes him to his boss. He tells him to dispose of the body with the help of Goldie’s friend – Diesel (Zbigniew Zamachowski). Together they work for Siamese twins – the third brothers, one – Zygmont (Jacek Boks) – a criminal, the other – Henrik (Cesary Boks) – an honest auto repair shop owner.
After many failures, Goldie and Diesel drop the body to a hairdresser (Krzysztof Stroenski), who parachutes it out of the plane. In this way, the corpse goes to the attractive 30-year-old Sandra West (Edita Olszowka), who plans to kill her wealthy husband, Pyotr. His doppelgänger is a Central Bureau of Investigation officer, Marian Tuleja (both roles: Bronisław Wrocławski), who fakes his own death, assuming the identity of West. But he is unaware of his wife’s murderous plans.
It gradually emerges that Voltaire was working on an interesting literary theory just before his death. His roommates – Cesar (Cesary Kosinski) and Gulik (Robert Witkiewicz) – go on a journey in search of their friend’s missing body.
The heroes of the individual plots of the “body” are paired. The first consists of Goldie and Diesel, good-natured thieves who – whatever they do – spoil everything.
The second couple, no less funny – are Cesare and Julek – the Krakow imps, whose lightness of heart triggers a series of funny and frightening events. The third pair consists of: Marian Tullega, a colonel in the Central Bureau of Investigation, who is decidedly a black character, and Sandra West, a ruthless femme fatale, who is an even darker character.
The next couple is the innocent pensioner Wanda with her granddaughter Alla, whose fates intersect with those of the previous heroes, as it turns out – and not by chance. The next couple consists of the nuns – Morrison (Maja Hirsch) and Felicita (Isabella Cuna). The last tandem is the Siamese brothers Henrik and Zygmunt III. One is a criminal and the other is an honest craftsman, which causes serious conflicts between them.
The only exception to the couples rule is Voltaire, the main character, played by Rafael Krolikowski. “We thought for a long time who should play the main role. We decided on Ravi – because he is not only a good actor, but also has a lot of charm. And sex appeal, which is necessary for the role of the body, ” – explain the filmmakers.
“Ciało” can be read on many levels. Less sophisticated viewers will see gangster comedy in it, the main driving force of which is fast action with surprising twists. More ambitious viewers will easily recognize that “Ciało” – being a parody of the “Ciało” films Gangster – is a “black comedy” with likable characters with a very Polish feel (referring to “Teddy Bear”, “Rejs” or “I don’t like Monday”), written in an engaging structure that breaks chronology.
The “Ciała” feature is a kind of comedy rare in Poland – dominated by a joke built on absurdity. The story of the corpses, dumped from place to place, reveals a world where nothing is ordinary: the gang leader is a Siamese twin fused with his honest brother, a sweet old couple have an unusual career for retirees, and the unemployed strangers are sensitive admirers of “Winnie the Pooh.” , and sexy girls are nuns.
“No matter how complicated the events are, no matter how absurd their actions are, the heroes of “Ciała” treat themselves quite seriously. They do not take their eyes off the viewer, nor put their behavior in quotation marks “play” “comedy”. They also pronounce more and more irrational texts in earnest. Ironically for the viewer, they remain almost tragic characters in their own right. In this antithesis, the comic power of “Ciała” is also revealed.
Thanks to “Pół Seriously” and “Body”, Konecki and Saramonović realized that only consistent brand building and honesty towards the viewer would help them achieve true success. Without complexes, they founded the production company Van Worden and set out to conquer the market.
Their subsequent films attracted millions of Poles to cinemas. “testosterone” It was watched by 1.4 million viewers “Ledis” Up to 2.6 million (the most watched film in Polish cinemas in 2008. These numbers speak for themselves.
“In the case of Testosterone and Lejdis, in the making phase we heard many times that the stories we proposed had no chance in the market because, for example, there were too many male characters in them, and there were no ‘chasers’. Cars or the movie was simply too long according to the views prevailing in the Polish market. And practice has shown that we were right,” – Konecki recalls.
“Although we make comedy films, we take the film market very seriously. We start from a very basic assumption that the first task a filmmaker has to be is not to be boring. We deeply believe that the viewer is the most important link in the entire film industry. ” – said Andrei Saramonovich before the premiere of the duet’s next film “The perfect guy for my girlfriend” (2008). It turned out to be the last joint work of the tandem.
