“Do you know how many times a year I think about, ‘I’ve had enough of this, I’m taking Ewa and we’re going around the world?’ – asks Kamil Stoč eloquently in an interview with Przegląd Sportowy Onet.
He has spent 30 years in ski jumps. He has the right to feel tired sometimes. But the power of routine means he knows exactly how to deal with such moments.
Kamel Stoush: I’ve been thinking about something for weeks and I’m starting to feel tired
– There is always a time of year when such thoughts come to your mind. Especially if it’s a more difficult time, when you’re experiencing some technical stuff that’s not working. I’ve been asking for something for weeks now and I’m starting to feel tired and can’t even do simple things. This is the case, and this was not the first time in my life, because I had many such moments. The point is to survive and keep believing in getting better. This is the key to success – explains Stoch.
He knows the taste of success well. After Robert Korzeniewski, Iryna Świńska and Anita Wlodarczyk, he is the most successful Polish Olympian. But with each passing year, it becomes more and more clear to him that one day this adventure will end.
– I realize that when you grow up, you think in slightly different categories – admits the three-time individual Olympic champion. – He knows that this won’t last forever. I hope my life looks different. I have no intention of doing this for the rest of my life. I hope that when I finish jumping, my life will look completely different. That I would finally start living.
But the end, although inevitable, will not come quickly. Stoch remains motivated to compete at the highest level. Next season will confirm that.
-I like to be one of the best or the best. I love standing on the podium because it is also a reward for the work, the sacrifices, the time dedicated to training and the nerves it costs. It’s nice to win trophies, but it’s not always possible. However, I still believe I can do it, which is why I keep doing it. That I can jump super high at the highest level. He confirms that this is what I strive for.
