Hubert Hurkacz advanced in style to the third round of the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Paris, which was played on hard courts. On Wednesday, the Polish defeated Roberto Bautista without losing a set or serve.
In the second round of the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Paris, Hubert Hurkacz faced Roberto Bautista. In the past, the Spaniard has caused him problems and won three out of four fights with the Pole. But on Wednesday, the Wrocław player was better, winning 6:3, 6:2.
Hurkacz was very fit from the start of the match. The Pole moved around the court energetically, served brilliantly, played great exchanges and was brilliant on the return.
Already in the fourth match, Hurkacz put pressure on his opponent and scored a break to zero. After a while, the difference increased to 4:1, and then he finished the first set with confidence.
The second part was a play by one actor. Hurkacz later served an ace, and was impressed by the quality and accuracy of the serve, and the volleys from deep and back. He broke Bautista’s serve twice to make it 5-2. In the last match, he left no doubt for his opponent and easily won three match points. He actually capitalized on the first one, sending a final forehand.
The battle lasted only 56 minutes. During this time, Hurkacz served 19 aces, won 38 of 51 points on serve, was never broken, earned three break points and used them all, played 33 final shots and committed only four unforced errors.
Thanks to this, Hurkacz gained more valuable points in the fight for qualification to the ATP Finals. The Polishman strengthened his ninth position in the race standings and reduced the gap to Holger Röhn, who ranked eighth, to 135 points.
In the third round on Thursday, Hurkacz will face No. 11 seed Casper Ruud or Francisco Cerundolo.
