On Sunday, Pope Francis did not read the Meditations before midday prayer for the first time; A priest from the Vatican did this for him. Francis communicated with the faithful via Vatican media from the Vatican’s home church of St. Martha, where he lives.
The Pope addressed the faithful, explaining that he could not read due to “inflammation in his lungs.” During the speech, he was coughing and had a bandage on his hand indicating the site of the instillation.
The reflections were read by Father Paolo Preda. Francis then recited the Angelus prayer. Thousands of believers gathered in St. Peter’s Square and watched the broadcast on large screens.
