A fashion blogger who purchased a gold, off-the-shoulder evening dress from online retailer Cherley was stunned to receive a yellow dress.
Anita Mviruki said she ordered the metallic petal-embellished dress on September 10 and received it on November 30. Last week, she showed her 172,000 TikTok followers the outfit in a 54-second video that quickly went viral, racking up more than 650,000 views.
“At first I was like, ‘Fix and send steam. You’ll be fine. No, girl. You’ve been robbed,'” one user commented.
“Cinderella clock struck midnight…lol,” commented another with a laugh.
In a series of TikToks, Mwiruki explained how she came to this deception.
“I saw this dress and it said ‘pre-order.'” In my brain, when I hear and see “pre-order,” I tell myself that they’re going to take time to make this item. I’m waiting. Good luck to those who wait. Things will come,” he explains.
“After a month, ‘Hey, what’s going on?’ This is what they sent me,” continues Mwiruki, pointing to an October 2 email from Cherley’s support team that says the company appreciates their patience and that it may take 2-3 extra weeks to make the dress.
“And I thought, ‘Wow, they’re really out there, working hard, tirelessly, to turn this dress into a work of art.’ I don’t know what they’ve been up to for the past two months…I don’t know. I have many questions,” Mviruki concluded.
