What do PC gamers take into consideration when purchasing games and what are their expectations? Interesting survey results

Video games are an important part of many people’s lives. It provides the necessary entertainment for everyone, and thanks to its diversity, everyone can find an address for themselves. Unfortunately, the gaming industry itself has not been looking good in recent years, which is especially evident in large productions that have been released in poor condition and are really expensive. A new survey sheds some light on what PC gamers take into consideration when choosing a game.

The survey conducted by startup Ultra and online agency Atomik Research shows how gamers view the gaming industry today and what prompts them to buy certain games.

The survey included 2,000 people from the United States and Great Britain. The majority of survey respondents agreed, as much as 75%, that today’s high-budget games (so-called AAA) are definitely too expensive. This fact is not surprising, because the prices of these products can reach really high levels, and they often lag behind. Therefore, it is necessary to wait for discounts, which was confirmed by 87% of players participating in the study. Only 36% of games are purchased at premiere prices, while 32% are titles purchased at a discount, and 32% are those that are acquired for free (this category includes, for example, weekly games from the Epic Games Store).

The main factor that encourages players to buy them are independent games, which are distinguished by the creative approach of their creators – and one of them is certainly the recently popular production Dave the Diver. Interestingly, almost all gamers go to YouTube when searching for new games (94%). Even though Steam is currently the dominant platform offering digital games, 36% of gamers still have trouble finding something for themselves (most people use the promotional sections). The statistics discussed only confirm what each of us might see – the gaming industry has to change, especially in terms of the quality of games and their prices, but these aspects may remain the same for a long time, and there is a good chance that they will change even for the worse.
