PlayStation 4 is one of the most popular and successful consoles in the history of video games. Since its release in November 2013, it has sold approximately 120 million copies worldwide.
Especially since it provided players with an unforgettable experience with titles such as God of War, Horizon Zero Dawn, Spider-Man, The Last of Us Part 2, Ghost of Tsushima – However, there are many games that deserve attention. The PS4 is also a console that has outgrown its competitors – perhaps especially the Xbox One – and still enjoys huge fan interest and loyalty.
Interestingly, You can still buy the new PS4 Slim version (For example, in one of the popular electrical markets, you can buy it for about PLN 1,300). However, nothing lasts forever, and the PS4 may soon face the inevitable end of its era.
PS5 – the new market leader
The main factor influencing the future of the PS4 is of course its successor – PlayStation 5. This console debuted in November 2020 and was immediately a sales success, despite limited availability and high price. The PS5 offers gamers much better graphics (although it’s still an evolution rather than a revolution), faster game loading, smoother gameplay, and an innovative DualSense controller that delivers richer sensory experiences – not to mention interesting accessories like the PlayStation Portal. The PS5 is also compatible with most PS4 games, meaning players can transfer their library and continue their adventures on the new console.. So it seems pointless to buy an old-generation model right now – if we added a thousand dollars, we’d have a newer console that’s backwards compatible.
PlayStation 5 is therefore a console that has everything a modern gamer needsWhich will definitely dominate the market for years to come. Sony announced some time ago that it would focus on creating games exclusive to the PS5 that take full advantage of its capabilities, although this list still seems insufficient, compared to recent generations, where there were more exclusive games. However, I think there will be titles available only on PS5 and PS5 in the next couple of years It will provide a strong incentive to pass on to the next generation. Especially since developer support in 2024 for the previous generation will be much less, and in the next generation it will be marginal.
PS4 – What’s next?
So what’s next for the PS4 in the face of so much next-gen competition? Does a 10 year old console still have a chance to continue to exist because there is no longer any development? Will players want to stick with older technology until titles emerge that take full advantage of the new (current) generation?
The answer to these questions is not clear and seems to depend on many factors. First, the PS4 still has a lot to offer to gamers who can’t or don’t want to buy a PS5. The console has a huge and diverse library of games, including classic and new releases. Products are still being released, are available on both PS4 and PS5, and offer high-quality gameplay, although of course not the same as on the newer console. There is also an advantage in the fact that a significant portion of gamers still have this console, and spending more than 2000 PLN on the new generation does not seem justified by some at the moment. For many, especially in times when games take much longer to produce, the PS4 may be a more attractive and profitable option. It’s still worth keeping rather than selling.
As long as the developers and Sony themselves don’t kill the old generation, we will have cross-platform titles that make some profit in the next gaming phase (like GTA VI). Every penny will count, especially since new titles have become more expensive to produce and, as I mentioned earlier, take much longer to produce than before. Moreover, no one expected such a long life of the “4”, especially at the time of its announcement, when the “strength” of its components was noted.. But the problem of PS5 availability and obtaining the right components, especially after the pandemic and during the conflict, also seemed crucial, giving the black girl more time. But eventually, the time will come, or the decision will come, to cut off the old once and for all and move on to the new. What is slowly happening, looking at the announced games, is an increased focus on producing new generation games.
summary
PS4 is a console that deserves recognition and respect for its achievements and contribution to the development of the video game industry. The console still has a lot to offer for gamers who aren’t ready or unable to upgrade to the PS5. But it cannot be denied that it is gradually losing its importance and popularity in the face of the new generation. Because it is the new generation that will shape the future of video gamesIt enjoys increasing interest and demand.
Therefore, it can be assumed that 2024 may be the last year in which the PS4 will have any role in the market. This is the year in which developers will largely end support for the PS4, focusing entirely on PS5 and XSX games, with an eye toward using their full capabilities.. This is also the year when most gamers may finally decide to switch to a new console.
The PS4 is already a 10-year-old console, and 2024 could be its last. This is a sad but possible expectation, and it may come true if the new and current generation continues its dominance and innovation. The PS4 will be remembered as one of the best consoles in history, but will (as is often the case) have to make way for a new and better console. However, I would like to express my gratitude for all the unforgettable moments you have provided for me and many players around the world.
