The situation described by the German newspaper allegedly occurred at Neuss Public School in North Rhine-Westphalia. The journalists found that four older boys were trying to force other students and school staff to obey Sharia law.
The boys were acting like the Sharia police in Islamic countries, according to the newspaper “Rheinische Post”. They demanded, among other things, gender segregation, the establishment of prayer rooms in schools, and the rejection of democratic principles. They also had to patrol the hallways and expected students and teachers to cover their heads.
The school administration resorted to the police. No crime was found
The German newspaper describes that in December, the school administration turned to the police regarding the matter. However, the investigation conducted by uniformed officers did not prove that any law had been violated.
“Such situations can lead to extremism,” describes the Rheinische Post. The newspaper added, citing anonymous sources, that the security services are monitoring the development of the situation in German schools “with increasing concern.”
— It must be clearly stated that schools are not religious institutions and that clear rules apply in institutions in North Rhine-Westphalia, this was confirmed by Klaus Koether of the Teachers and Teachers Union in an interview with the Rheinische Post newspaper. – We cannot open prayer halls for every religion. Of course, religion is important, which is why schools offer classes in religion and philosophy, he added.
