He revealed this to media outlet Buzzfeed Canada on February 28 during an interview as part of the Montreal premiere of his film.

The famous director mentions that he tried to slip this swear word into one of the two films to please his Quebec fans.

“If we could slip the word 'tabarnak' into a movie, I'm sure it would please the people of Montreal,” says Denis Villeneuve.

He even went so far as to ask actor Josh Brolin, who played Kearney Halleck in both parts of “Dune,” to try to incorporate it into his dialogue.

“I asked him to use it at one point, but it didn't work,” the director continues. The word doesn't come right out of an American's mouth. Sorry, I failed.

“Dune: Part II” stormed the North American box office in its first weekend in theaters, grossing US$81.5 million.

It is the highest-grossing film in the first weekend of 2024.
