According to a study conducted by AutoTrader, listening to certain popular artists improves driving skills.
The study tested car drivers who were subjected to 20 famous artists while their “perception of hazards” was tested on the road.
“Higher scores indicate higher concentration levels, meaning that participants were quicker to identify and react to hazards when listening to that artist,” the researchers noted in their hypothesis.
Research shows that the best music to listen to while driving is Drake's. “Participants in our study scored an average of 59.5 out of 75 when listening to the 'Hotline Bling' singer,” the researchers said.
Artists should avoid
Two performers seem to have been omitted to ensure good behavior. “Neither Bach nor Megan the Stallion are useful artists to listen to in the car,” the researchers revealed, with participants scoring an average of 42.5 and 37.5, respectively, when listening to these artists. The passing mark in the exam is 44 out of 75.
Listen responsibly
While music can be a great way to enjoy everyday commutes, the study pointed out some rules of conduct to follow to do so responsibly.
This should be done at an appropriate level as loud noise can be distracting to the driver. Wearing headphones is not recommended as they block outside sounds.
Also avoid changing the volume while moving as it can be dangerous on the road.
These recommendations are based on the Highway Code of Great Britain, where the study was carried out.
