A few days before the start of the season in the National Speedway League (formerly Second League), the Polish speedway community received bad news. It turns out that the Speedway Kraków team will not be participating in this year's competition!
– Unfortunately we will not see the team in Nowa Huta in the 2024 season. A difficult and unpleasant decision, but without budget guarantees we will not take risks – This information was provided on social media by Pawel Peskors, director of Texom Stal Rzeszów, who was supposed to cooperate with Krakow Club this year.
– The 2024 season will be full of many tournaments at the Krakow Oval Stadium. “Let's hope this encourages potential sponsors,” he added.
The Kraków team was due to return to the league this year after a break of several years (last participating in the league in 2019) and was to be supported by players up to 24 years old under contracts with Texum Stal. Unfortunately, we already know that this won't happen.
Due to the withdrawal of the Kraków club just before the start of the competition (the league starts next Saturday), as well as the early withdrawal of Kulyars Rawitz, six teams will eventually participate in the KLŻ, which, according to the new competition, will be guaranteed participation in the playoff stage, because as of this year it has been expanded. To include six teams. However, for now, the main round will have to be played, and it is very possible that the schedule will be changed.
The National Speedway League is not having a good run. Let us remind you that recently there has been a lot of talk about the financial problems of Unia Tarnów (its start in the league was seriously threatened) and Polonia Piła. All because of the withdrawal from the sponsorship of state-owned enterprises.
Let us add that although six teams participate, only four of them have the right to advance, because Trans MF Landshut Devils and Optibet Lokomotiv Daugavpils cannot participate in the PGE Ekstraliga and Metalkas 2.Ekstraliga.
