In March, Jakub Moder returned to the Polish national team after two years. The reason for the separation was a serious knee injury.
The player, who returned to play with Brighton in November last year, sat on the bench in the match against Estonia, but against Wales he watched the match from the stands. Michał Probierz was not included in the match squad.
This decision caused great surprise among the fans, although the choice was successful in the end. Poland defeated Wales after a penalty shootout and advanced to the European Championship in Germany.
Jacob Moder about the match against Wales: I was angry
Now the central midfielder has commented on the coach's decision.
– Of course, when the coach told me that I would not be in the squad, I was angry and I think it was a natural reaction. Because I felt I could help in this match, which is a very important match, because it was a promotion match – said Moder on the program “Her Majesty’s Premier League”.
– I respected the coach's decision. I supported the team from the stands. “It happened, there was such a decision and I couldn't do anything about it,” he added.
Jacob Moder is in the starting lineup for Liverpool and Chelsea
Already before the Polish national team's training camp, Moder was in the starting lineup for Brighton in the English Premier League, where he played against Nottingham Forest. After returning from the national team, he also played from the first minute in matches against Liverpool FC and Chelsea.
This season, the Lech Poznań graduate has made 16 appearances in all competitions. In total, he played 59 matches for Brighton, where he joined at the beginning of 2021, and missed more than a year to receive treatment for a serious injury.
Moder's next opportunity will be against Burnley on April 13. Soon, the Seagulls will also face a very tough match against Manchester City.
