On the eve of the weekend, the horror film “Abigail” surprised the box office, grossing $1 million in its premiere.
The film, which is the latest work by the directors of the last two films in the “Scream” series, tells the story of a young vampire ballerina, the daughter of the famous Count Dracula. A group of criminals plan to steal $50 million and kidnap a girl, not realizing that they have a bloodthirsty monster hostage..
“Abigail” is expected to earn between $12 million and $15 million in its debut weekend, which could allow it to unseat last week’s leader, A24’s “Civil War.”. The horror film, which cost $28 million to produce, could quickly become profitable if its first weekend delivers the desired results.
The cast included: Melissa Barrera from “Scream”Dan Stevens, Will Catlett, Kathryn Newton, Kevin Durand, Angus Cloud, Giancarlo Esposito (known from Breaking Bad)Matthew Goode, Alisha Ware, Jaco Abigail.
The directors are Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillette, the people responsible for, among others, the reboot of the “Scream” franchise. The screenplay was written by Stephen Shields and Guy Busiek and is a reinterpretation of the 1936 horror film “Dracula's Daughter.”. The film has a better opening chance than “Civil War,” which could earn between $10 million and $12 million in its second weekend.
Can Abigail fight her way to victory or will Civil War maintain her place at the top? We will know the answer soon! The premiere of the film “Abigail” opens today in Polish cinemas (April 19, 2024).
