Richard Sherman, composer of “Mary Poppins,” dies at 95

American composer Richard Sherman wrote popular melodies for Disney productions Mary Poppins Or The Jungle BookHe died Saturday at the age of 95, the studio announced.

Disney said he died in Beverly Hills due to an illness in his old age.

With his brother Robert, who passed away in 2012, he formed a duo of great composers in entertainment between 1960 and 1973, participating in the creation of more than 200 songs for 27 films and around twenty television productions.

He was especially co-editor Sem Sem Chimney (Sim Sim Cher-E In the original version), the film’s iconic title Mary Poppins (1964), which won the Academy Award for Best Original Song.


Robert Sherman wrote the lyrics and Richard composed the melody.

In a press release, the US company described Richard Sherman as a “key member” of its founder Walt Disney’s “close circle of creative talent”.

“We will be forever grateful for the mark Richard left on the world,” current Disney CEO Bob Iger said in a statement.
