Comedian Daniel Lemire is halfway through his tour to celebrate his 40th career anniversary.
His shows end in less than a year to the day, while his tour spans over 3 years. By the end of this — probably his last — Uncle George “would have done the trick,” his impersonator said with a sneer.
Daniel Lemire, who began his career in the 1980s, laughed, “That’s what a 40-year career means,” as he returned to the stage last year after an eight-year absence.

“When I left that show; Oh boy! There was some rust. The reflexes have returned a little bit and the show has gotten better over time, but still… so I imagine it won’t improve over time,” he asserted with a laugh, noting that dying on stage was not part of his plans.
The result, but not the final result
Daniel Lemire still doesn’t know what he’ll do at the end of this tour, but he’s confident that this show will be his last. The comedian admitted that he has several projects in the works, some of which are still in the embryonic stage.
“To do a solo show again, I’m not sure. And I’m not going to play game “Enjoy it, I’ll never come back”. In a couple of years it will motivate me, but the market is changing a lot. There are other ways to do this work,” he said, stressing that he first loved writing and creating.

People’s reception has changed the most in his 40-year career, he says. If some cakes are banned today – with good reason, he acknowledges – some are disproportionately large compared to others, he says.
“Years ago, I wrote a little more on Facebook, where I joked about current events and sometimes received comments bordering on hate … a divide was pronounced,” he said.

Daniel Lemire doesn’t see his exit from the stage as a sad one. “At some point we go to another call. If I stop acting, we’ll do something else… On the other hand, of course it can be a little sad sometimes, but at the same time, I’m not getting any younger. I’m doing comedy. I have to make it funny somewhere, otherwise it’s weird for me. It seems.
