The coming days are sure to be very exciting for fans of technological innovations, with the Computex exhibition getting underway in Taipei. This is one of the most important events of the year, as manufacturers often bring new products and also use the fair to announce upcoming arrangements. We’re already after the opening keynote of Computex 2024, which was mainly led by AMD. The company’s current president, Lisa Su, officially announced the AMD Ryzen 9000 processors from the Granite Ridge family during the conference.
During the inaugural Computex 2024 conference, AMD officially announced four Zen 5 desktop processors: Ryzen 9 9950X, Ryzen 9 9900X, Ryzen 7 9700X, and Ryzen 5 9600X. The Zen 5 systems will premiere in-store next month.
During a recent conference in Taipei, AMD officially announced four Ryzen 9000 desktop processors from the Granite Ridge generation: Ryzen 9 9950X, Ryzen 9 9900X, Ryzen 7 9700X, and Ryzen 5 9600X. They use the refactored Zen 5 microarchitecture, which features, among other things: more comprehensive and more accurate branch prediction, higher throughput thanks to wider pipelines and vectors, and more modifications to the core design, which increases efficiency when performing multiple tasks simultaneously And process data more efficiently. Zen 5 offers, among other things: up to twice the bandwidth of front-end instructions, increased data transfer bandwidth between individual cache levels and improved AI performance, including: thanks to additional support for AVX-512 instructions.

The average IPC increase for the Zen 5 core compared to Zen 4 increased by 16%, for example the increase in Far Cry 6 is 10%, in Cinebench R23 it will be 17%, while in Blender the IPC increase is 23%, and in the game League of Legends is 21%. So it seems that the increase in IPC in Zen 5 compared to Zen 4, for specific tasks, is greater than when switching from Zen 3 to Zen 4. AMD Ryzen 9000 processors use TSMC N4 lithography for compute chips and TSMC N6 for block I/O, where We also find the integrated RDNA 2 graphics chip The memory controller for AMD Ryzen 9000 processors supports DDR5 memory, but at the time of publishing the material, we have not received information about the exact changes compared to Zen 4 systems – when this information is published, we will update the material.
The most powerful processor will be the AMD Ryzen 9 9950X, with 16 Zen 5 cores and 32 threads. The Turbo has a clock speed of 5.7GHz, while offering 80MB of L2/L3 cache (16MB L2 and 64MB L3 – no changes to the L2 and L3 architecture, at least in terms of capacity). The TDP of the processor is 170W, just like its predecessor. Interestingly, the remaining Granite Ridge processors actually offer lower TDPs than their immediate Zen 4 generation predecessors, at 120W (the Ryzen 9 7900X has 170W), while for the Ryzen 7 9700X and Ryzen 5 9600X it is only. 65W (its predecessors had a TDP of 105W). It seems that the company was able to not only increase efficiency, but also improve energy efficiency.
With the announcement of the Granite Ridge processors, AMD is also updating the AM5 platform itself. First, the new X870/X870E chipset was introduced. All motherboards with the top chipset will have native support for USB 4 and PCIe 5.0 for both the GPU and SSD. In addition, the new boards will offer an improved AMD EXPO processor with the ability to set a higher clock frequency for DDR5 RAM. The manufacturer also announced extended support for the AM5 socket. Next generations of Ryzen processors will be available for AM5 at least until 2027, although AMD does not rule out support being longer than currently announced. The AMD Ryzen 9000 processors will premiere in July and final pricing will be announced closer to that date.
AMD also doesn’t forget about the AM4 socket. During the conference at Computex 2024, the manufacturer announced two more processors of the Ryzen 5000 generation: AMD Ryzen 9 5900XT and Ryzen 7 5800XT. The former offers 16 cores and 32 threads (Zen 3), while the Ryzen 7 5800XT receives 8 Zen 3 cores and the AMD Ryzen 9 5900XT runs at a clock speed of up to 4.8 GHz and offers a total of 72 MB of cache. The AMD Ryzen 7 5800XT, in turn, receives 36MB of cache, and the maximum clock also reaches 4.8 GHz. The TDP of both systems is 105W. In the Ryzen 7 5800XT box, in addition to the processor, there is also an AMD Wraith Prism cooler with RGB backlighting. Both units will go on sale in July, and their prices will be announced at the same time as those of the Ryzen 9000 systems.
We return for a moment to the top-end AMD Ryzen 9 9950X processor. The manufacturer compared it with the Intel Core i9-14900K, declaring higher performance in games such as Borderlands 3 (up to 4%), Hitman 3 (up to 6%), Cyberpunk 2077 (up to 13%), and F1 23 (up to 13%). up to 16%, DOTA 2 (up to 17%), and Horizon Zero Dawn (up to 23%). In Cinebench 2024, multi-threaded performance will be 21% higher, but in Handbrake and Blender the differences are expected to reach 55% and 56% respectively. In contrast, when supporting LLM (Large Language Model), the AI performance of the Ryzen 9 9950X will be 20% higher compared to the Intel Core i9-14900K.
