Slovenia won and advanced to the Olympic Games in Paris

The Slovenian national team was the favorite in the confrontation with the Bulgarians, and it did not disappoint. This means that Georgi Creto’s players can be confident of playing in the Olympic Games in Paris. Despite their lack of success during the qualifiers, the results achieved so far warrant the team’s promotion based on the FIVB rankings. Currently, the Balkan team is ranked sixth and has a chance to improve on this position.

The first set started quite unexpectedly, as the Bulgarians had the lead for a long time. The performances of Asparukh Asparukhov and Denis Karyagin were excellent. Halfway through the game, Gianlorenzo Bellingini’s players took a three-point lead (14:11). However, later in the match, they were unable to maintain their advantage. On the other side of the net, Tuncek Stern and Tini Ornaut had problems finishing attacks, but as time passed, they appeared better and better. The Slovenians constantly chased their goal and eventually achieved their goal. With a score of 22:22, they overcame the resistance of their opponents and eventually won in a time of 25:23.

In the next episode, the Black Sea players once again confirmed that their result would be much better if the competition was held at half the distance. They maintained contact until 14:14. A moment later, Jan Kozamirnik appeared in the service box and completely destroyed the opponent’s defense, serving 11 more balls!

Good play by Klemen Sebulj and Jan Kozamirnik allowed the Slovenians to maintain the lead in the third set. The opponents did not give up, and serves of Denis Karagin and Semyon Nikolov kept them in the match (9:9). Only Gregor Robert’s serves allowed the team to jump away (15:12). Gianlorenzo Blengini’s players returned to the game, but only for a short period. Toncek Stern with two consecutive serves gave the Slovenians safety in the end (21:17). It was the right wing who ultimately took responsibility for the result. It worked, because after a moment the Balkan players were happy with all the points.

Bulgaria – Slovenia 0:3 (23:25, 14:25, 21:25)
