In the semi-finals, the strongest was Katrin Koch Jacobsen, who sent the hammer to a distance of 72.88 m. The second result was obtained by Fantini (72.28 m), and the third was obtained by Rose Luja (71.70 m). The best Polish woman was Włodarczyk. Our heroine achieved 71.27, which gave her fifth place. Malwina Kopron came in eighth place (69.13m) and Katarzyna Furmanek (68.66m) came in twelfth place.

Already in her first attempt, Włodarczyk confirmed that she intends to fight for the highest goals. The 38-year-old clocked 71.42m in her attempt and was the leader. After the second series, although the pole improved to 71.93, I lost two places. All thanks to the great results of Fantini (72.30m) and Silja Kosonen (72.06m).
In the third round, the Italian increased her advantage (72.61 m). But Kosonen and Wlodarczyk did not improve their results. Koproń also advanced to the quarter-finals, where she failed on her first and third attempts, but her second attempt, a clear of 69.72 metres, secured her promotion. Furmanek was eliminated from further competition and finished eleventh (67.50m).
Anita Włodarczyk was the leader. But only for a moment
In the fourth round of the competition, Luja was a firecracker, throwing 72.68 meters and taking the lead. However, Włodarczyk’s response was immediate – 72.92 meters and first place. Unfortunately, Fantini’s performance was even more impressive, and the hammer then flew a distance of 74.18 metres!
As it turned out, these results decided the fate of the entire competition. In the fifth and sixth rounds, no competitor was able to improve, and the competition classification did not change. Thus Fantini won the gold medal, Włodarczyk the silver and Kosonen the bronze. Koproń eventually finished seventh.
In an interview with PAP, Włodarczyk said that it has been exactly two years and one day since her last injury, a torn biceps tendon. — I was lying down and watching the Polish Senior Championships on TV, and today I’m standing here with the silver medal. You have shown once again that it is worth believing, and it is worth being optimistic. If you have problems, you have to believe that everything will be okay. “However, there should be a lot of great people around you,” she added.
– When I entered the field, I felt good. Once I knew I got a medal, that was also a huge relief. You came back and showed that you can still win medals at this age, and concluded as European Vice Champion.
