Police are investigating a knife attack at a private house party organized for the 2024 European Championship. The crime occurred in Wolmerstedt in the state of Saxony-Anhalt. According to information received from the Welt newspaper, the attacker’s first victim was his friend, a 23-year-old Afghan. The attacker’s age was determined to be 27 years old. But it is not certain whether he was actually that old.

An Afghan killed a 23-year-old citizen in the apartment where they lived together. He then walked around the estate and looked for more victims. When he heard the sounds of parties, he broke into private property and threw a party at a single-family home. There he attacked several people.
The group watched the opening match of the European Championship between Germany and Scotland together. The attacker seriously injured a 50-year-old woman and a 75-year-old man. A 56-year-old man sustained minor injuries. It was not initially clear how many guests attended the party. The attacker had previously threatened people with a knife in the garden of the house opposite. Eyewitnesses informed the police. That’s why it arrived relatively quickly.
The attacker was shot by alert officers. He later died in hospital from his injuries. Investigators ruled out a religious or political motive.
– A local police spokeswoman said – We are currently interviewing witnesses – which can be very long in cases of this type. Some witnesses do not come from Germany. They must be interrogated in the presence of an expert translator.

“I am deeply shocked by this horrific and unpredictable attack. My thoughts are with the victims and all those involved who suffered not only physical but also psychological injuries,” Interior Minister Tamara Zeschang (CDU) wrote in a statement. Zishang wished the victims a speedy recovery. The minister also stressed the increased police presence on the streets after the incident.
An investigation began with the policemen who shot the attacker – as is customary in the case of the use of firearms by the police. The investigation is being conducted by the Magdeburg Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Stendhal Police Station. The police announced a press conference on Sunday.
