What direction will Armenia take?
Armenia has been trying to build closer ties with the West for several months amid tensions with its traditional ally Russia. Yerevan in particular accuses Moscow of lacking support in the standoff with Baku, including during Azerbaijan’s attack on the breakaway Nagorno-Karabakh region in the fall of 2023.
Russian peacekeeping forces remained passive in this conflict, which ended with the victory of Azerbaijan, the liquidation of Nagorno-Karabakh’s independence, and the flight of the Armenian population.
