The massive sum included payments to the vice president’s campaign team, the Democratic National Committee and other organizations that raise money for the Democratic campaign.
According to Kamala Harris’s staff, more than 888,000 people have donated money. People, 60 percent of whom are first-time donors in the current election cycle. The staff’s statement shows that this is the largest amount of money raised by a candidate in 24 hours in U.S. election history.
Currently, Kamala Harris’s staff has about $240 million to run a campaign.
Biden Drops Out, More Politicians Back Harris
Harris received the endorsements of several other key Democrats on Monday, a day after President Joe Biden dropped out of his reelection bid, including politicians who have been mentioned by media outlets as potential rivals for the nomination. Some of them are seen as potential Democratic vice presidential candidates, The New York Times reported.
Democrats want to quickly get rid of the conflicts that became clear in the party after Biden’s unfortunate appearance in the televised debate with Trump. The New York Times said that the divisions that became clear among politicians, some of whom called for Biden to go, have turned into enthusiasm.
Harris issued a statement announcing that she intends to “work for and win the nomination,” likely in response to establishment Democrats demanding an open caucus and not yet endorsing her.
North Carolina, South Carolina, Maryland and Tennessee were the first states on Monday where Democrats formally endorsed Harris. In Florida, 236 of the state’s 254 candidates at the Democratic National Convention have pledged their support for the vice president, the newspaper reported.
