Christopher Dring, director of GamesIndustry.biz, expects PlayStation 5 sales to surge in the coming months. The main catalyst will be the high-profile debut: the PS4.
Dring stresses that upcoming titles can only accelerate the planned purchase of the console. The fourth quarter of 2024, a traditionally key period for the gaming industry, is expected to be of particular importance.
This may be the case for Shadows, but Black Ops 6 is still being released on PS4.

The analyst draws attention to an interesting phenomenon – more than 100 million PS4 owners have not yet decided to upgrade to the new generation. However, the upcoming premieres may be the factor that will convince those who have not yet decided to invest in PS5.
Although Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will be a cross-gen title, also available on PS4, Dring believes that the game could highlight the performance differences between the generations, encouraging players to upgrade to newer hardware. We can’t forget the exclusive titles that are on the way, either, but GTA 6 will be a major coup when it comes to switching from PS4 to PS5.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows, being a next-gen console exclusive, could also be a strong incentive or argument to buy a PS5. The lack of a PS4 version could prompt fans of the series to upgrade their machines, unless Christopher Dring is wrong.
Dring’s predictions suggest that the video game industry is entering a phase where technological differences between generations are becoming more pronounced. This could be a turning point for Sony, potentially leading to significant growth in the PS5 user base in the near future. But will it be so? We’ll see in the coming months.
