Andrzej Duda, President of the International Olympic Committee? Netras spoke

Thomas Bach has been president of the IOC continuously since 2013. His term ends in June next year. The names of potential candidates are already appearing in the media.

Andrzej Duda may try to join the International Olympic Committee. The current president of the Republic of Poland cannot run for re-election in May 2025, but nothing prevents him from trying his hand on the international stage.

In a morning interview on RMF FM, Slawomir Nietras referred to the reports about Andrzej Duda. The Sports Minister’s reaction was firm.

– I closely monitor what is happening in the IOC and it seems to me that the best formula is when a prominent athlete of the past becomes the president of the Polish or International Olympic Committee – in one fell swoop, Nitras stuck a pin in Andrzej Duda and Radosław Piesiewicz (PKOL president).

Thomas Bach is a former fencer and 1976 Olympic champion. Among the candidates to be the new IOC president is Sebastian Coe, a four-time Olympic medalist in middle-distance running.

– Of course he must have other qualities, he must be a man who represents us externally. He knows foreign languages. He is able to navigate the world of diplomacy. But his authority is real when he is an Olympic champion, an Olympic medalist, an outstanding athlete – said Sławomir Nietras.
