Although this information sounds like a description of an action movie, it was confirmed by the officers and volunteers of the Animal Protection Society, who caught a porcupine in the priest. If the story is not interesting enough, it is still unknown where the pet came from and to whom it belonged.
A porcupine has been running around Bielsk Podlaskie for several days now. According to Gazeta Wyborcza, he was seen among others next to the bridge, in the park and near the train station. One netizen managed to photograph a frightened animal escaping along the sidewalk. As it approached, the animal grew its thorns in preparation for the attack.
Porcupines are able to take out their spines at high speed, thereby injuring the attacker. Such a height can dig very deep, and therefore these mammals are deadly. The news about the porcupine spread across Bielsk Podlaskie like wildfire. More and more people saw it.
– It was a few minutes after midnight. We sat with friends in front of the monument to Pope John Paul II. A colleague at one time said: I either suffer from hallucinations or a porcupine walking down the street – says Daniel Jakubovich, a resident, in an interview with TVN24. – I was surprised, but not so much as I would have been, if I had not read in the local media ahead of time that a porcupine has been running in the streets for several days. One to read it and one to see it live. I told my friends that the animal should be caught – he adds.

With Mr. Daniel’s help, a porcupine finds solace after his daring escape through town. He was able to rest a little in the local priest of the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary and St. Nicholas.
Mr. Daniel noticed that the pet had entered the church grounds. Close the property gate and tend the animal in the basement of the parsonage. He called the police and firefighters to the scene, and it was already after 1:30 a.m. from Sunday to Monday.
The officers warned the parish priest not to accidentally open the cellar door. They also contacted the Animal Welfare Society of Bialystok for help. TOZ volunteers arrived at the site Monday noon, equipped with specialized animal hunting equipment. However, the porcupine is a particularly difficult specimen and this was the first time that volunteers had to deal with it.

Whoever thinks that catching such an animal is easy is mistaken. The more nooks and crannies in the room, the more the porcupine will start releasing its thorns at some point. One of the volunteers was injured in the leg. The wounds are shallow, but it is not pleasant to stick such needles into the skin, says Anna Jarozevich, head of the Bialystok branch of TOZ, in an interview with TVN24.
– These thorns were flying like arrows, at a distance of several meters – one of the volunteers added in an interview with the local portal “bielsk.eu”. – At some point, I noticed that my friend’s leg was stretched like a cactus. Blood began to seep from under her leg – she said.
The women stood on the boxes so that the nails would not reach their faces. In the end, they managed to put the destroyed porcupine in the carrier after a difficult procedure that the volunteers called “bloody”. Fortunately, the volunteer’s wounds are superficial.

It is not known where the porcupine came from or to whom it belonged. A commenter on Facebook suggests that a circus visited the city recently and that a porcupine came with it. For now, that’s one clue. The porcupine is safe, it is sitting in a barn in the house of a TOZ volunteer. As the parish priest told “TVN24”, the visit of the porcupine did no harm to the parishioner, but they will certainly remember it for a long time.
