Attempted assassination of Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi

The Iraqi army announced the failure of the attempt to assassinate Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi. On Sunday, the prime minister himself said he was “safe and well” and called for “peace and restraint” following the “drone” attack on his palace in Baghdad’s Green Zone.

And Al-Kazemi tweeted after an armed drone attacked his residence, according to his services, as reported by Agence France-Presse, “I am fine, thank God, and I call on everyone for peace and restraint for the sake of Iraq.”

And TASS news agency, quoting Al Arabiya, reported that the prime minister was injured while he was in hospital. The attack was carried out by a drone.

The Iraqi government said, on Sunday, that the home of Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi was hit by a missile, but the prime minister was unhurt during the attack.

Baghdad residents heard an explosion, followed by gunfire, from the heavily fortified Green Zone in the capital, which houses foreign embassies and government offices.

Two Iraqi officials told the Palestinian Authority that the prime minister’s house had been hit by a missile. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity. They saw that the attack was carried out by supporters of the Shiite militia loyal to Iran, who did not recognize the results of the recent parliamentary elections in Iraq.
